Burning Man isn't just about getting crazy on in the Nevada desert anymore. The organization is now taking on urban revitalization, aiming to fix up a run-down area in San Francisco.
The Original OKRA Charity Saloon in downtown Houston operates a lot like other taverns. Booze is purchased and poured, bartenders get paid and take home tips. But the owners give all their profits away. Proceeds from OKRA's are donated to a different Houston-based organization each month. With every drink purchased, bar patrons vote on which charity is chosen from among four new nominees each month.
A Philadelphia man is leading the charge to reclaim an 86-acre city park that had become overgrown with weeds and trash while becoming a haven for crime. His love for the park stems from family outings as a child and led to a working army of volunteers.
