When 36-year-old Nordia Palmer-Ferguson went to her doctor complaining of blurred vision, headaches, pressure and swelling in her left eye, little did she know she was facing the possibility of blindness, or even death. After other surgeons gave up, the ingenious solution of an ophthalmologist and professor at Cornell, not only saved life, but restored her sight.

Final Steel Beam Lifted at 4 World Trade Center

Gospel singer BeBe Winans sang God Bless America and more than 100 workers signed the final steel beam that was lifted into place at the new World Trade Center skyscraper, the first expected to be open for business since the twin towers were decimated on 9/11. Workers raised their hardhats in tribute as the mammoth beam rose slowly into the Manhattan sky at the ceremony Monday to mark the completion of the structure at 4 World Trade Center.

New Yorkers Pay Kindness Forward Annually Since 9/11

Jeff Parness, like many New Yorkers, was changed by the terrorist attacks on 9/11. He lost a good friend when the Twin Towers fell, but also was deeply moved by the support the city received from across the nation following the attack. In 2004, he established New York Says Thank You, a nonprofit that sends volunteers from NYC, particularly the city's beloved firefighters, to help rebuild other disaster-stricken communities in the U.S. every September.

LEGO Unveils Giant X-Wing Fighter in Times Square

Hundreds gathered in New York City yesterday to witness the unveiling of the world's largest LEGO model, a life-sized replica of the Star Wars X-Wing fighter, in Times Square. 32 master builders employed by LEGO required more than five million bricks and four months to complete the massive replica, which weighs 45,000 pounds.
