A compassionate firefighter is being hailed for an act of kindness towards a local senior who had a medical emergency last month.

Rance Pringle of the Plano Fire Department in Texas was one of the first responders who answered a call about a 90-year-old man who collapsed from the heat while he was outside doing yard work.

With temperatures climbing into the 100's, the sweltering June day was one of the hottest days so far in that region.

While his colleagues escorted the man to the hospital, Pringle stayed behind in uniform to finish the yard work in the heat.

The fire department posted a picture of Pringle at work to their Twitter page, saying: "This is just one example of the fine men and women who serve our great city everyday."

When asked why he felt compelled to do it, he says that he simply wanted to be kind – and hopefully inspire others to do the same.

"Just help someone," Pringle told CBSNFW. "If you see someone in need or if they need help if they're having a bad day, just try to be a bright spot on someone's day. It doesn't take much effort. It's pretty easy. I think just the effort alone… makes all the difference in the world."
