Frito-Lay has long worked on making its manufacturing plants more energy, waste, and water-efficient. Now the snack giant has just opened in Arizona a 75% net-zero energy plant that the company is calling the greenest manufacturing facility in the U.S.
Orlando Bloom has an eco-house; Prince Charles has built a sustainable home, and now a major developer plans to build 500 eco-homes in Devon. Despite the economic gloom, the green way of building has never been more popular - 7,000 projects last year, a number that has more than doubled since 2009.
A U.S. Green Building Council partnership released its third annual report listing the greenest colleges nationwide. The online-only guide, available as a free download, includes brief summaries of sustainability initiatives at each of the top 311 school, as well a dozen or so data points on things like renewable power use, energy efficiency and waste disposal.
