In the last few years, while Israel's relationship with the Arab and Muslim world has drastically deteriorated, an Israeli heavy metal band has been uniting thousands of Jews and Muslims across the Middle East, touting the power of music to turn purported enemies into friends.

$16 Million Violin Sold For Charity

A Japanese music foundation has sold a renowned Stradivarius violin for $16 million at auction to raise money for tsunami disaster relief. The nonprofit Nippon Foundation owned the 1721 violin, which was rarely played, and decided it could be put to better use: The needs of our fellow Japanese people after the March 11 tragedy have proven that we all need to help, in any way we can.

Alaska Inmates Find Identity in Orchestra

After serving a 14-year sentence for murder, no one would have expected Sarah Jane Coffman to go anywhere near the Hiland Mountain Correctional Center once she was released. But every Saturday she makes the 10-mile drive with a viola in tow for orchestra practice at the prison just north of Anchorage. Coffman is a founding member of the women's string orchestra at the prison, playing since 2003.
