A Marine drove 2,000 miles to be reunited with the snaggle-toothed, bent-eared furry friend that helped him deal with PTSD anxiety.

For four years Hemi the cat wondered a North Carolina base looking for his friend, but now is back home with him.

Hemi lived with Robert Connell and his family at the Marine Corps Air Station at Cherry Point until he went missing. The veteran said Hemi listened to his deepest secrets during his bouts with PTSD.

"Before I had kids, the only thing I could connect to was a cat," Connell told WNCT News.

When Connell left the service four years ago, he and his family moved to North Dakota, not knowing Hemi was still wandering the Marine base.

When the stray cat was caught earlier this month, an animal shelter found its microchip that let them find the Connell family.

Hemi is headed to a new home with a big back yard, and he'll never have to look for Robert again.
