We've all heard of Winston Churchill – but have you heard of Smokey the dog?
Smokey was a Yorkshire terrier who was found by an American soldier in the jungles of New Guinea in 1944. He thought that maybe she belonged to the Japanese, but since she didn't seem to respond to the language, they could not figure out how she got there.
Eager to get back to his poker game, the man who found her then sold her to another American soldier for six dollars.
Smokey then went on to become a nationally recognized WWII hero.
