A guy from South Carolina who wanted to keep the Washington monuments clean during the DC government shutdown was seen mowing the lawn around the Lincoln Memorial yesterday. Reporters later interviewed the South Carolina man named Chris Cox, who bought an old lawn mower at a thrift store and hit the National Mall carrying a large flag and trash bags to empty the overflowing bins.

The Rector and congregation of St John's Episcopal Church in Aberdeen have offered the hand of Christian fellowship - and part of their church building - to the hundreds of Muslims attending a neighboring and overcrowded mosque. The Aberdeen mosque is so busy at times that members of the Muslim community were having to pray outside in the wind and rain.

China Unearths 100 Life-Size Terracotta Warriors

Chinese archaeologists have unearthed 110 new terracotta warriors that laid buried since 210–209 BC, part of the famed army built to guard the tomb of China's first emperor. The life-size figures were excavated by archaeologists near the site where in the 1970's farmers found the first bits of a terracotta army, including chariots with full-size horses.

Late pop star Michael Jackson was immortalized in cement on Thursday when his three children stamped the Thriller singer's glove and shoe prints in the hallowed concrete courtyard of Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood. Jackson's daughter Paris, 13, imprinted her father's iconic silver sequined glove and scrawled his name into the cement, adding a heart in between Michael and Jackson.

On Friday, he was triumphant after a pledge of $98,000 from filmmaker Tyler Perry provided the final push for reaching the pastor's goal of raising $450,000 to buy and demolish the decrepit motel, a haven for drugs and prostitution.

Phyllis Diller, the first woman to make it big as a comedian, was an American pioneer. She created a stage persona of a wild-haired, eccentrically dressed housewife. She made self-deprecating jokes about her age and appearance, her terrible cooking and housekeeping, and her fictional husband named Fang. She died peacefully in her sleep, her longtime manager said, with a smile on her face. She was 95.

Springsteen, Bon Jovi and Sting to Star in Hurricane Benefit Concert Friday

Superstar musicians born in the New York/New Jersey area will perform in Rockefeller Center Friday, part of a benefit concert for victims of Hurricane Sandy. New Jersey natives Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi, along with Billy Joel from Long Island are joining Christina Aguilera, Sting and Jimmy Fallon for the show, to be broadcast on NBC at 8pm.

Christian Bale Turns Hero for Young Cancer Patient

Christian Bale answered the Bat-signal this week for a 4-year-old cancer patient who wished to meet his hero. Jayden Barber wanted to meet the real Batman, so friends and family organized a Facebook page in hopes of attracting Bale's attention. The 38-year-old actor answered the call and earlier this week flew Jayden and his entire family out to Disneyland for an intimate lunch.
