Once again the creative genius of the Washington DC community is on display in the Easter candy parade of homemade art that is the annual -- and always humorous -- Peep diorama contest. Each spring the sticky critter-confections are decorated and transformed by readers of the Washington Post into scenes depicting famous books, paintings, or movies.

For the past 25 years, Ra Paulette has been carving into the sandstone hills of New Mexico, sculpting his own exquisite caves, making them into works of art that he calls wilderness shrines. These intricate caves are created with manual tools only, like shovels and picks, and are illuminated by the sun through multiple tunneled windows.
A Minnesota farmer thought as long as he was moving 4 feet of snow using heavy machinery, he might as well have some fun with it. Greg Novak used all that snow to build a 50-foot snowman that was so large it needed an full-sized oil drum for a nose. He named the giant figure 'Granddaddy', and positioned it to face the highway running alongside his farm in Gilman.
