Instead of Wasting Trillions of Gallons of Water Every Year, 'World's First' System Dyes Fabrics With CO2
These ingenious machines could recycle tons of CO2 while simultaneously saving trillions of gallons of water used by the fashion industry every year.

Rather than allowing the fashion industry to continue wasting trillions of gallons of water every year, this Dutch company is giving clothing companies a sustainable new makeover.

DyeCoo is a Netherlands-based business that uses CO2 to dye fabrics instead of water.

According to recent sustainability reports, it can take anywhere from 25 to 40 gallons water to dye 2 pounds of fabric. Collectively, the textile industry uses almost 25 trillion gallons of water every year.

DyeCoo, on the other hand, uses a machine that dyes fabrics with pressurized CO2, which allows dyes to quickly dissolve and penetrate the textile - all without the use of water or chemicals.

Each machine is estimated to save up to 8.4 million gallons (32 million liters) of water, roughly 176 tons of processing chemicals, and untold amounts of energy every year.

Additionally, since the machine uses a closed loop system, 95% of their CO2 can be cleaned and recycled after each dye cycle.

The technology is already being used by companies such as IKEA, Nike, Adidas, and Peak Performance - and with more and more corporations being pressured to go green, the water-free coloring system is likely to catch on quick.
