WS Fans Write Poems Dedicated to Good News for My Birthday
To celebrate both National Poetry Month -- and my birthday -- I asked newsletter subscribers to send in poems about what it's like to read the Good News I provide. Here are a few.
Thousands of people have come together in order to support a 20-year-old woman who has been supporting her five younger siblings since their parents died.
Sam Rodriguez is the oldest of her brothers and sisters, ranging in age from 5 to 17. Since both of their parents died from cancer within the last five years, she has taken charge of their family.
Last week, the siblings made national headlines after their local police department published a video of themselves presenting Sam with a new car. The kids' story was shared thousands of times – and it has resulted in thousands of readers donating to a GoFundMe campaign for the family.
In just a week, the page has raised over $29,000 and counting.
"I'm at a loss for words, but the kids and I will be forever grateful to all of you," says Sam. "This help has changed my life and took so much off my plate."
"It amazes me to see how much people have came together to help me and my family and to see how many good-hearted people are out there!" she added.
