The school district in Gray's Harbor County, Washington, didn't have money to provide free or reduced price meals to low income kids over the summer. So Phyllis Shaughnessy, rounded up volunteers, did some fundraising, and got the Green Lantern Tavern to donate kitchen space.

She and her volunteers meet every morning to pack lunches, featuring non-perishable food, and fan out across the county delivering "Green Lantern Lunches."
Shaughnessy plans to deliver school supplies later this month and keep the food program going on weekends and holidays through the school year. She says she's delivering more than just a meal.

"You're offering the children hope and love and a lunch," Shaughnessy told KING News. "They need to know someone cares."
