Dad With Cancer Writes Daughter 826 Notes Just in Case
Garth Callaghan started slipping notes into his daughter Emma's lunchbox when she was in kindergarten. Now in eight grade, she depends on those brief missives as a daily source of inspiration. Callaghan, 44, now battling cancer, in a fit of inspiration, has written hundreds of napkin notes to his daughter, leaving a legacy of how much he loves her.

Garth Callaghan started slipping notes into his daughter Emma's lunchbox when she was in kindergarten.

Now in eight grade, she depends on those brief missives as a daily source of inspiration — and a reminder to never take her dad for granted.

Callaghan, 44, has battled kidney cancer twice over the last several years and in a fit of inspiration, has written hundreds of "napkin notes" to his daughter, leaving a legacy of how much he loves her.

"Dear Emma, Sometimes when I need a miracle, I look in to your eyes and realize I've already created one," says one of them. "Love, Dad"

A doctor, who was called suddenly to perform brain surgery during a life-threatening emergency, had only one option for transportation leaving the hospital where he was located, he had to walk. Up hills and (mostly falling) down hills, wearing only scrubs and slip on shoes, Dr. Zenko Hrynkiw trudged on through the wintery mix to the main road where traffic was at a dead stop. After walking six miles he finally reached a passable roadway where a salesman picked him up to deliver him to Trinity Medical Center.

How One Family Was Blessed By "Shop With a Hero"

Michigan's Shop with a Hero program allows police officers and firefighters to take children Christmas shopping. In Ingham County, 55 children were able to be shoppers this year strolling the aisles of a department store and picking out items totaling $100. With additional donations, each family also received a ham, turkey, milk, and food, a $25 Meijer gift card and more. One woman described what it meant for her and her family.
