Cesspool No More, Connecticut River Returned to Former, Cleaner Self
Once swollen with sewerage and industrial waste, the Connecticut River has improved steadily over the past two decades with sharply reduced levels of pollution.

"Nobody knows the Connecticut River better than Jim Dietz, a three-time Olympic rower and two-time Olympic coach who built the University of Massachusetts women's crew team into an East Coast powerhouse."

"Once swollen with sewerage and industrial waste, the river has improved steadily over the past two decades, making it far more suitable for rowing, Dietz stated. Currently, 10 school or club rowing programs use the river, reflecting its sharply reduced level of pollution."
