Reports of bullying amongst American students have been on a continuous downturn for the last ten years – and now, they have reached a new low.

According to Health Day News, rates of students grade 4 through 12 who were experiencing some form of bullying (e.g. physical, cyber, relational, or verbal bullying) ranged as high as 29% between 2005 and 2014, but that number steadily dropped by roughly 2% every year until it fell below 10%.

This could be because of proactive campaigns taken by schools and communities to stop and discourage student bullying.

"We found that bullying and related behaviors were decreasing, which indicated improvements in student behaviors and school climate," said study lead author Tracy Evian Waasdorp of Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, Maryland.

"The good news here is that some of the national attention to this important public health issue appears to be having a positive impact."
