A "dying" Baptist Church in Birmingham, Ala, which had dwindled to about 40 elderly white people, decided to give their church and everything in it — including the cemetery and the 9-foot-Steinway concert grand piano — to a thriving predominantly black Baptist congregation started in 2003 that had no building to call its own.
