The latest data pointing to an economic recovery includes encouraging manufacturing news in the U.S. and Europe, propelling stocks higher worldwide.

Stocks rallied after a report showed U.S. manufacturing expanding last month at the fastest pace in seven months, matching analyst estimates.

The Commerce Department also reported that construction spending rose 0.4% in November, the third straight monthly increase.

Hilton Hotels has launched a program to collect safe, surplus food from conferences and daily restaurant operations that would otherwise be thrown away, and providing it to those in need. A multi-year partnership with two hunger organizations began a month ago to ensure that hotel food, instead of being wasted, is distributed to local food banks, soup kitchens, and school programs in Egypt and the US.

Today Akerson is the Chairman and CEO of General Motors -- which owns Chevrolet, still the maker of the Corvette. On Friday the CEO placed his beloved mint 1958 turquoise convertible on the auction block so he could give all the proceeds to Detroit's Habitat for Humanity.
